posted by Jo Barber, a parent/guardian, 2007-12-02 Jamesville High School is a small, student oriented school in a tight-knit community. Jamesville High School has something that the larger schools do not have and that is individuality. Jamesville students are not just a number, they are individuals who receive the highest level of learning, taught by caring teachers who take the time to help and guide each child. It is a family and the teacher/student ratio is low, thus allowing each student that individual attention he or she may need. Our test scores are high in rankings with the other schools in Martin county, our drop out ratio is low and the violence that infilitrates other Martin County Schools as well as the drug problem seen in a variety of larger schools, just is not evident in Jamesville High. Consolodation has been an ongoing issue for quite sometime from a certain minority of Martin County board members who desire to close our small school. Bottom line, this is all politics and will not result in a positive outcome for the students who are forced to attend schools much further from their home, not allowed the opportunity to infiltrate the school they are sent to regarding sports and this change most definitely would result in a very negative outcome for the students of Jamesville as well as their parents. Statistics prove that larger is not always better and that throwing more students into a situation of a bigger school only opens the door for more fights, assaults, riots, provides a drug breeding ground as well as a huge host of other negative results. Jamesville High School is the second newest school in the county and should be allowed to remain opened just as it is now, housing our 7-12 students.
