posted by Cathy Sperry, a parent/guardian, 2010-02-20 The M.Y.C.A. sounded like a great place to send my son that was struggling in the public school system.
They made it sound that they would teach him academics as well as teach him to respect others.
However, from the moment he arrived, they had him standing for hours at attention.
They should atleast do the marching they claimed they would do, but instead, they just stoood there.
Another thing they promised me is they would watch him to ensure he would not run away.
4 days after being there, he asked one of the officers if they ever planned on doing any type of calistenics or would they just stand there until graduation.
The officer said, if you dont like it son, then leave.
So my son left..he walked out of formation, went through the woods, climed the fence and walked to a house in K-zoo.
My son called me from a strangers home.
It took about 3 hours to get there.
after getting him, we drove to the gaurd station but they wouldnt let us in.
So i took my son home.
M.Y.C.A. never called, they never missed him.
I called they about a week later, they claimed they didnt even have a record of my son being there,,although i held copies in my hand.
I would not recommend this place if you are looking for help for your youngster.
Its almost a joke of a school.

posted by Lorie Ouellette, a parent/guardian, 2009-05-05 Excellent program, without this program most of the teens that enter into Michigan Youth Challenge Academy would have been cast aside by teachers and principals. Here they get a second chance. It is worth the effort they need to put in to be successful in life. The teachers and Commadant of Cadets put more effort into the daily routine than most public schools are allowed.
